DOMESTIC USE - HEAT STORAGES

A heat store, usually a hot water storage tank, is required in all thermal systems because the heat (hot water in this case) requirement does not coincide with the solar energy being received, i.e. we still require hot water after the sun has set and early in the morning when it has just risen.

It is important to understand that this hot water storage tank is an essential part of the system, however its large dimensions can be a problem in today’s ever decreasing dimensions of the home: For average hot water requirements in a primary home, a storage capacity of 60 litres per person is recommended. Thus for an average family home, the hot water tank could be 300 to 500 litres.
