DOMESTIC USE - AUXILIARY ENERGY SOURCES

Solar hot water heating systems work all year round, but logically their efficiency in winter months (November, December, January, and February) is limited due to climatic conditions. In these months we can only expect to achieve a maximum of around 50% of the heating requirements if conditions are favourable, i.e. there are few cloudy days. During these months, an auxiliary heat source is required to ensure that there is an ample hot water supply.

This can be electrical, oil fired, gas fired, etc. expert solar systems can incorporate existing systems or supply new systems that are more appropriate for their combination with solar systems. In every case, expert solar systems will ensure the best possible use of the solar energy available, before turning to the auxiliary energy source, thus reducing the cost of this additional energy to a minimum. While this point seems to hold clear logic, many existing systems are badly designed and do not reduce auxiliary energy consumption as much as they potentially could.
